Covid-19 Community Assistance Outreach

One thing that is certain about the novel corona virus is that it has created complete chaos in our lives. Who would have thought Costco of all places would run out of tp!

Some of us have no choice but to follow the CDC/State/County health department order advice and decided to shelter in place. No going out to eat, no trips to Trader Joe’s, no movies. And then there are others who have extra time on their hands since no sitting in our cars in traffic, or simply need an excuse to get out of the house.

So, we thought we could put these two groups of people in touch with each other.

Democrats of Greater Irvine have a Covid-19 assistance outreach program set up to help those who are sheltering in place. Those who need our services, and those who would like to volunteer their time to help with this project click here

DGI September 15 Club Event & Democratic Candidates Straw Poll – Join Us!

Join DGI at our next club meeting for a major straw poll this Sunday, September 15!

One of the most important things we do as a club is help the California Democratic Party vet and select Democratic candidates to endorse. Our DGI club representatives will be voting, on October 5, for pre-endorsement in California State Senate District 37, candidates Katrina Foley and Dave Min, followed by California Assembly District 68, candidates Melissa Fox and Eugene Fields. Club  representatives will be voting along with members of the Democratic State Central Committee in those districts.

This Sunday, your vote in our straw poll guides our club’s sentiment regarding these important races! Join us for our club meeting this Sunday, September 15 (2019), 2pm – 4pm at the Duck Club for a candidate forum and straw poll!

You must have paid club dues in August or earlier and attended at least one prior club meeting to participate in the straw poll.

May Meeting: The American Rescue Plan

Join us as we hear from federal to local levels on President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan. We’ll hear from DNC Member and Climate Hawks Vote founder, RL Miller, as well as local updates.

RL Miller founded Climate Hawks Vote to build grassroots political power for the climate movement. Miller is also a Woolsey fire survivor, elected to the Democratic National Committee (2020-2024), and elected chair of California Democratic Party’s Environmental Caucus (2013-2021).

Register in advance for this meeting:

July 19th, 2020

At our next general membership club meeting, hear from our Team Irvine local endorsed candidates for Irvine Mayor Farrah Khan, and for City Council Lauren Johnson-Norris and Tammy Kim! They will be introduced by Councilmember Melissa Fox!

With Councilmember Khan running for Mayor, this allows for Irvine voters to select three candidates for City Council, with the third place winner filling the term of Councilmember Khan when she wins the mayorship. So, we will also hold a candidate forum and straw poll for the third City Council seat. To participate in the straw poll, you have to be a member in good standing. To check if you are, please email Membership Chair Naz Hamid.

If you are a candidate who has not received an invitation yet, please reach out to us! We are doing our best to find and invite every candidate.
